Jumelages & Languages (J&L) is an initiative aimed at contributing to closer Franco-Irish ties, a process bolstered by Brexit, the Ireland-France Joint Plan of Action (2021-2025) and the France-Ireland Joint Strategic Framework (2026-2030).
Grounded in the conviction that subsidiarity is key to promoting European values, the starting point of J&L’s is linguistic and cultural exchanges between French and Irish localities.
The broader objectives of J&L include:
- facilitating and coordinating Franco-Irish linguistic and cultural exchanges between relevant localities on both sides of the Celtic Sea;
- fostering the European identity of J&L program participants;
- initiating bilingualism among participants through immersion;
- developing a Franco-Irish network capable of joint action to promote the interests of J&L program participants;
- organizing encounters, both online and in person, to advance the projects of J&L program participants;
- offering useful resources to J&L program participants, including:
- thematic fact sheets related to local Franco-Irish interests;
- articles for learning English and French and fostering mutual cultural familiarity between French and Irish persons;
- directories of entities relevant to the development of local Franco-Irish interests;
- and voluntary contributions from J&L program participants;
- promoting program accessibility and inclusion, specifically by ensuring the participation of young people from rural areas, modest backgrounds, or demographics typically excluded from international mobility;
- seeking capital, particularly in the form of grants, to fund the projects of J&L program participants.
We do our best to deliver on those goals. For any inquiries, please contact us at coordinator@jumelagesandlanguages.eu
