See the full scope of our ambitions in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jumelagesandlanguages.eu\/index.php\/our-mission\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"http:\/\/www.jumelagesandlanguages.eu\/index.php\/our-mission\/\">Our Mission<\/a> section.<br><br>For the uninitiated, &#8220;a sister city or a twin town relationship is a form of legal or social agreement between two geographically and politically distinct localities for the purpose of promoting cultural and commercial ties&#8221; (<em>Wikipedia<\/em>).<br><br>As for &#8220;jumelage&#8221;, it is the French word for &#8220;town twinning&#8221;. It comes from &#8220;jumeaux&#8221;, the French word for &#8220;twins&#8221;. Think star sign &#8220;gemini&#8221; and mark the resemblance! For as well as being respectively the first <a href=\"https:\/\/www.diplomatie.gouv.fr\/en\/presse-et-ressources\/decouvrir-et-informer\/actualites\/journee-internationale-de-la-francophonie-2026-le-francais-devient-la-4eme-langue-la-plus-parlee-au\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.diplomatie.gouv.fr\/en\/presse-et-ressources\/decouvrir-et-informer\/actualites\/journee-internationale-de-la-francophonie-2026-le-francais-devient-la-4eme-langue-la-plus-parlee-au\">and fourth<\/a> most spoken languages in the world, English and French  share plenty of vocabulary, rendering their joint learning both pragmatic and convenient.
